There was a time in my life where I just couldn't wait for certain era's to pass.....what a mistake that was. As I stop to contemplate the past and the time gone by I consider those era's and think how I could have cherished each moment a little more. Maybe its normal as a younger person to be in a hurry to see what the future holds, but as I have matured (notice I didn't say as I got old lol) I have learned to appreciate each day and all it has in store. To appreciate all the little things in life and to thank God each day for all of them. I wish for all my days to be longer, my weeks to have more days in them, my months to not turn into another so fast and for my years to not go by so quickly.
In Church last Sunday our lay speaker told a scenario that goes something like this: If you had 5 things that you truly cherished and spent all your time on, now two of them were taken away you would be left with just the three, time would still go on. Now two more were taken away and your were left with one, time still goes on. This last one thing is it really important enough to spend all your time on, like the other four it could be taken away very easily and time would go on. Think about what you devote your time to, is it that important? Maybe we all could take a look at our priorities and do a little adjusting. Food for thought: How many years will you spend here on earth? maybe 90 -110......How about after life? Will it not last so much longer?
Now I am sure I didn't tell that as gracefully as our lay speaker did but I think you get the idea he was trying to get across.
I am going to enjoy what is left of the evening, get a good nights rest, and be off to work in the morning. I am also going to spend a day with that new little "kindergartner" tomorrow.

Today was a very eventful day for me, it started out with going to work for a few hours. Then it was off to see Julia in her school play. OH my gosh SO darn cute were those little 1st graders. It was a very "buggy" play, with ladybugs, caterpillars, butterflies, dragonflies, bees, ants, stink bug, and even a maggot. lol. This little stink bug every time he passed by all the other bugs held their noses until he was gone. The maggot was adorable, when he said his line "I'm a maggot" he received many laughs. It was just the dry way he said it that was so funny. I guess you had to have been there. My sweet Julia was a lady bug and it fit her perfectly. The little dance and song the lady bugs did was adorable. Julia has some pretty good rhythm. The bugs were off to a picnic for some pretty good food. I loved the play and all those adorable bugs. Darn I didn't get a picture.
Have a great evening.

The food was wonderful, as always when my Mom is cooking. We did help out by bringing in dishes to pass, and no one went away hungry.
The festivities began on Friday when family started arriving. My sister, her daughter in law and grandaughter stayed at my house. Oh and I can't forget her dog Claire, a great dane. It was so nice to get to know her little grandaughter and daughter in law, so sweet they both are.
Each night at my Mom's house was a bon fire, which lasted to the wee hours in the morning. People slept here and there with campers and extra beds and cots.
We did have a storm blow through in the middle of the picnic and we were able to test just how strong that porch was....well it didn't fall in. :) Some of the kids were disappointed because of the storm. I told them you know this is one of those storms that will just pass through and when it is gone if you walk up and down the sides of the road you will be sure to find salamanders. You see, there is a creek by my Mom's house and that kept the kids very well entertained. They had been looking for salamanders without much luck. So after the rain sure as heck they all went for a walk and came home with about 6 of those little orange buddies. My Mom keeps plastic jars with lids on hand for just such an occasion and gave each kid a jar of their own. They brought those salamanders in the house and we had "Salamander Races". They found out that the gentler you are with them the better they move. Most of the salamanders were turned back out to their habitat, a couple went home with the kids to be turned loose later.
Thank you God for this family and all the wonderful memories.

Our day here today was beautiful, after all the rain we have been having it has seemed nice to have a day with perfectly clear skies and bountiful sunshine. Thank you God.
Here are a couple of "finds" that I brought home from the girls day out on tuesday. I want to have my porch have an eclectic, rustic, vintage feel to it, and I feel these rusted pots will start me off right. The one reminds me of a vintage mop bucket of course it has been down sized, and the other is a watering can. My plans are to plant something pretty in each and display it somewhere on the porch.
My brother picked up all his toys and went home today, guess he was done playing at my house. :( Now I will have to play by myself, with some sanding and then a lot of staining/painting. My goal is to be done by Memorial Day weekend. My sister and her family is coming up for a big family picnic and I don't want to be working while she is here.
My daughter in law, Kim has a favorite quote and I am going to steal it from her tonight. So good night all and......

My brother is my hero....he is also a excellent carpenter. It is always a joy to work with him, sometimes I don't think he can always say the same about working for me. :) I do believe he thinks sometimes I have lost my marbles, but he always humors me and will make what ever I ask him to. In this corner of my porch I wanted a planter, some guys sometimes don't get the whole dirt, flower gardening thing. But he asked me just what I wanted and then proceded to build it, and of course its perfect. I am not sure what I am putting in there but during the preparation of getting ready for him to build I had to dig out my Japanese maple and I am toying with the idea of putting it back in here.
Well this idea really convinced my brother I was nuts....a bench made from an old bed, whoever heard of such a thing. Well I have and I explained it to him and of course showed him a picture of one I picked off Pinterest. (If you haven't joined Pinterest yet, well you need to check it out. I am totally lost with it and have really found some great ideas there.) Then he went to work and this is what he made, I just love it and again its perfect. I am debating on what color to paint it....pink? lol As I was helping to design my new porch I told my brother I wanted it to be diferent and he agrees that we have totally acheived that. Instead of your typical post railing, I changed it up with solid wainscoting, and instead of a gate with an upwards arch, I chose a dipped arch. I am very pleased with how this is all coming together, we have just the lights to install hopefully tomorrow, then its up to me to finish. I have much sanding to do then I can stain. More pictures to follow as progress is made.
I am so thankful for my brother, as I am with all my brothers and my sister. God has granted me with a wonderful family who cares and is very supportive of each other. I realize in this world not all families have that gift and so daily I must remember how blessed I am and give God the glory, praise and honor. I come from a family of five kids and I am the second in line with my sister being the oldest then me, then three brothers. We are also very blessed to still have both our parents, and them still being married to each other. Thank you God.

I had a wonderful day today with friends shopping. Robin, Carole, Laura and I went the paper warehouse in Ohio, we also went to Pat Catans. Then on the way home we stopped at Hobby Lobby and I run into Lowe's to pick up a light for my front porch. God has blessed me with wonderful friends and the joy to share with them our love of hobbies and fellowship. Thank you God. I picked up a couple cut little tin planters for my porch, I will get you some pictures tomorrow. I am exhausted .... lol! Good night all.

We decided that it was time to get that front porch fixed before someone fell on the loose bricks and broke a leg. The first step then was to remove the shrubs so the guys could start digging for the posts. Then I had to decide what I was going to do with these shrubs after I dug them up. I knew I wasn't going to put them back in front of the new porch because I have other plans for that. I have been wanting to join the two large maples in my front yard with a garden island space. I have been putting it off because it is a large project and haven't felt like I was ready to jump in. I kept thinking about these bushes and knew in my heart this is where I wanted them, so bite the bullet so to say and just do it. So I layed my bushes out and looked at it from the front and back to make sure I really liked the layout.
When I was happy with it then I planted them. The next step was to surround them with cardboard and lay out my stones for the border. Then finally the mulch. I didn't end up connecting the two trees yet, that will come as I buy more bushes to fill in the space. Since I have taken these pictures I have added some creeping phlox in front of the rock and some ground cover in the four corners. I am currently looking for just the right chair to put in the left corner, I will put a pot of posies in the seat of that chair.
Its nice to look off my new porch and see this garden, I am excited to extend it to complete the island.
Tomorrow will be a fun day, I haven't been shopping with my friend Robin in quite awhile and its even been a lot longer since I have gone with Carole and Laura. So we are off for the day. Our main stop will be the paper warehouse and then its whatever else anyone wants to do. I am personally hoping for a stop at Pat Catans craft center. It will be exciting to see what treasures we all find, you never know what we will bring home. Until tomorrow evening then I hope you all have a wonderful tuesday. hugs!!

In church today our Pastor quoted a quote from our Bishop when he was here. ( I missed the service I was in the nursery) and I thought I would share it with you.
"The main thing is to keep your eye on the main thing, and the main thing is the main thing and the main thing is Jesus Christ!!"
Our sermon was on fellowship and many points of interest that he spoke on spoke to me this morning. I, for one am not very good at the whole fellowship thingy, I am in my own zone when I am with my immediate family, very close friends or having those alone moments in my garden or with my dogs. I don't do well in groups. I feel God was speaking to me this morning that I need to be stepping out of my comfort zone and moving forward. So, if I keep my sights on the main thing, Jesus Christ, with His guidance and His guidance only I can be a better person with fellowship. Boy is this going to take a lot of prayer and faith. lol
